Gordon King
Gordon King was born in 1939 and was destined to become an artist after winning several art competitions from the age of seven. Having moved from Fife, he concentrated on figurative illustration and trained at Carlton Studios in London whilst studying life drawing and painting at Reading University.
In his early 20s he illustrated for magazines and advertising agencies whilst improving his technique on portraits and exhibiting his work until in the mid 70s when he concentrated full-time on his paintings being predominantly in oils. Showing work at the Royal Academy in London and later at the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours.
His paintings of young models girls soon became his trade mark and the popularity of the watercolours in the early 80s together with the success of his prints, limited editions and silk-screens brought him the high profile that he has today.
Gordon works from his studio in Buckinghamshire. His exhibitions have been staged around the world and many major Art Galleries and collections includes examples of his work.
